Mahlon Thomas

Mahlon A. Thomas, 85, of Lake Hopatcong, NJ passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Born in Dover, NJ, he was an eagle scout who loved the outdoors. A proud Army veteran of World War II, who served in the 101st Engineers Combat Battalion “26 Yankee Division”, he was a Recipient of the Purple Heart Award and a member of the Disabled American Veterans organization. An active member of his community, he was a member of Elks Lodge 2153, Lake Hopatcong Historical Society, and a life member of the National Riflemen’s Association (NRA).
Mahlon was employed as a cable splicer with PSE&G in Clifton for twenty-five years.
Beloved husband of sixty-three years to Margaret A. (Mc Manus) Thomas. Devoted and loving father of William M. Thomas and wife, Jane and Kathleen M. Meyer and husband, Phil. Cherished grandfather of Tracey Merlino, Tara Bracco, and Phil T. and Mahlon R. Meyer. Adored great grandfather of Emily, Ryan and Matthew Merlino, Frankie, Tyler and Danny Bracco and Leigha Meyer.
A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 11 am at Vander Plaat Colonial Home. Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.
