Michael   Buglio

Michael Buglio, age 86, of Fair Lawn, NJ on Saturday, April 11, 2009.  Born in Cosenza, Italy, he immigrated to the United States with his mother settling in the Bronx, NY before moving to Fair Lawn in 1954.  Having proudly served with the United States Navy as a deep sea salvage diver during World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Buglio was a member of the U.S.S. Euryale Retirement Group.  A parishioner of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock, he was a member of the Association of Mature Parishioners and an usher for forty five years.  An involved citizen of his community, Michael was a Scout Master of Troop 190 in Fair Lawn for fifteen years, head of the Jr. Rifle Club of Fair Lawn, member of the Gun Club of Fair Lawn, member of Activities Unlimited of Wyckoff and a member of The Fair Lawn Camera Club.

 

Prior to retiring in 1983, he was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for twenty-eight years.  A graduate of the School of Modern Photography in New York City, Michael also owned and operated a professional photography studio in Fair Lawn.

 

Beloved husband of fifty-nine years of Frances (McGuire) Buglio.  Loving and devoted father of Michael E. Buglio and wife, Barbara, Mark Buglio and wife, Susan and Kathryn Flaherty and husband, Dennis.  Cherished grandfather of Mark, Sean, Troy and Kristen Buglio and Kayla and Liza Flaherty. 

 

A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 10:15 AM at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.  The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to Eva’s Kitchen and Sheltering Programs, 393 Main Street, Paterson, NJ 07501-2815.

We knew that Kathryn Flaherty, his daughter, is coming in Italy next weeks. 4/14/2009 5:24:42 PM Tom Solosky	As the son of a USS Euryale sailor (on eternal patrol), I had the pleasure of meeting Mike at the 2003 USS Euryale reunion in Philadelphia. I'll never forget his showing us how they slid down the metal stairs (on our visit to the USS New Jersey) instead us walking down. Quite a feat for someone 80 years old! A great man, a wonderful couple. Rest in peace Mike. Say hello to Hank for me.
